West Harrison Volunteer Fire Department is always looking for new potential members to join our department. In order to be eligible to apply for membership to the West Harrison Volunteer Fire Department, prospective members must first meet several requirements:
If individuals are able to meet these requirements, a completed application must be submitted in person at a regularly scheduled meeting held on the first and third Monday's of every month. Individuals submitting an application will have an investigating period of up to ninety (90) days, but no less than thirty (30) days. This time will be used to obtain above stated histories of the prospective member. During this time applicants are encouraged to attend as many meeting and calls as possible so that members can become familiar with her/him.
Individuals found acceptable by the members may be deemed a Probationary Firefighter. The member shall be on probation with the West Harrison Fire Department for 90 to 180 days. The department may extend the probationary period as desired at the recommendation of an Officer of the department. During this probationary period he / she are encouraged to attend as many department activities as possible. He / she may be issued protective clothing and communications at the Chief’s discretion. Probationary firefighters shall have no voting rights and under no circumstances allowed to operate an emergency vehicle. Probationary firefighter status may be revoked at any given time by a majority of the members or at the discretion of the Officers for the good of the Department.
